Thats my excuse for not updating this thing. So much has happened since the last time I posted anything, and I apologize for slacking. Lets see, to get everyone up to speed, on October 11 (National Coming Out Day) I came out to my Dad. For years I’ve wanted to come out to him, but it’s never felt right, and at this time in my life it needed to happen. I go to school in Orlando, so I unfortunately couldn’t come out to him in person, but I called him around 8:15 pm, because of course I kept putting it off. As soon as he answered the phone, I just started tearing up. He asked if everything was ok, and I told him that I really needed to tell him something. Then I told him, just like that. He could not have reacted a better way. He was supportive and loving and most importantly, accepting. He accepted it so easily, to the point where I don’t know why the hell I was so worried about it. That day needed to happen, in order for me to continue on with my relationship with my Dad. After I got off of the phone, he texted me one of the greatest things I’ve ever heard from him….it made me cry… it made my friends cry too. So, for now I thought I’d share this with you. Hopefully, I’ll be updating this over the holiday.

Being Ethnically Ambiguous…

works in my favor for the most part. It’s starting to get me in trouble, though. Today, in class, this girl and I were discussing our research paper, which is to be on a country and their cuisine. She informed me that she was writing her paper on Cuba, because that’s where she’s from. So, of course in typical “me” fashion, respond with, “Oh, me too”. Now, this is an out right lie. It already has left my lips and is too late to take back, because then she would think I’m a crazy person if I take it back. Naturally, she asks, “Oh, where are you from?”. Shit. Without even thinking (keep in mind, I have no geographical knowledge of this country) I say, ” Bay…of…uh Pigs”. SERIOUSLY. Yeah, Seriously. First thing that came to mind. She nods her head and starts laughing, so then I say, ” haha, no actually close to Havana”. Did that really just work? She responded with, ” oooh, cool, my family lives about 45 minutes away from Havana”. Yeah, that really just worked. The only reason why I said Havana, was because I remembered this cuban restaurant in Jacksonville called, Havana Jax.

The lesson learned: I need to stop lying about my ethnicity. Especially to actual natives of these countries that I say I’m from.

Phew! Its been a while…

so, as we speak, my neighbors upstairs are having sex in their living room again. I thought I should share that with you. Ok, so I haven’t blogged in QUITE a while. Here’s what I’ve been up to…
Last weekend I volunteered to help out with Gay Days, here in Orlando. What can I say? Quite a good time. Tons of drunk gay men. The whole time I was thinking “what. a. sausage fest!”. Come on Lesbians! Where were you?! Anyways, so my job was to check I.D.s and wristband people. So, this drunk guy comes through the line and hands us his debit card…uh, this guy was GONE. A few hours later, I see him being dragged out of the event. Later on I found out from security that he had passed out and shit his pants. I can’t make this shit up!
It was fun, but I’m glad its over, I need to focus on school. Oh yeah, I’m taking summer classes as well. I love my food prep class, long hours, but I have the best time. I’m also taking Human Resources Management…which blows. While taking classes, I’m still trying to find a restaurant job and manage Equal stuff. I know I’ve mentioned it before, but I am now President of Equal@UCF, which is UCF’s LGBT social club on campus. Our last few E-boards have been complete fuck ups, so we’ve had a lot of housekeeping to do. Things are looking up, though. Everyone I’ve talked to has been really excited about this fall’s upcoming meetings. We (executive board) have been attending the Freshmen Orientation Ice Cream Socials, which allows us to get our name out and connect with new/potential members.
I can’t tell you how excited I get after every social. It’s so awesome to have these Freshmen come up to our table and tell us that they came just to see our table. We’ve also been getting parents who are supportive of their children and encourage them to join our organization. It gets me so pumped for Fall & Spring, because everything seems to be coming together. Equal has so much potential, now its just about delivering. Can we deliver? I KNOW we can! I think its time that this organization and this Executive board makes their mark.

Late Night Thoughts…

I’ve just come to the realization that I’m the reason why my dad and I aren’t close. I pull away. I don’t allow for there to be that normal “father daughter” sort of bond. I’m afraid to get too close. Because I haven’t been honest with him. I lie to him. Constantly. I’ve struggled with this for years…

My father was my hero growing up. Whatever he did, I did. He always wanted a little girl, and when I was born, he was so happy. But, I was never the little girl that he wanted… or at least thats how I see it. I hated dresses, barbies, and dolls. I was a tom boy. I can remember my dad not wanting me to cut my hair when I was little. He always wanted me to grow my hair out, saying things like “oh, your hair is so pretty when its long”. I never wanted to be pretty. I wanted to be tough, and brave and play sports. Then there was separation. Next came divorce. Throughout the years I could feel my dad and I drifting apart. I felt it most in high school, when I really came to terms about my sexuality. I was also sixteen with a car, a girlfriend and lots of other things on my mind. It didn’t hit me until I was eighteen and legally wasn’t required to spend every other weekend with him. I soon started going over to his house once a month, which then turned to maybe twice every three months. College came into the picture and I never came home much. I came home 3 or 4 times a year. I got used to not seeing him. I got used to him not being there. I guess thats part of growing up, learning to live on your own without your parents. But, I had to say goodbye before most kids. I love my father, and I don’t want to lie to him anymore. Growing up he had dreams of walking me down the aisle of my wedding, and handing me off to my husband. But those were his dreams, not mine. He needs to realize that, but I’ve never given him the opportunity to accept it. Because I’ve never told him. I never told him that I will be getting married someday, to my beautiful wife. I will also be giving him lots of little grandchildren, that will call him their hero too. So, I think its about time I tell him, huh?

but, I legit won Prom Queen.
So, last night was EQUAL@UCF’s prom, GAYLA. Gayla is our “alternative” prom, which basically means prom for the LGBT community and such. It was a lot of fun, I wish more people attended, but it was still a blast. The cherry on top was winning Prom Queen, as stupid as it may sound, I think everyone secretly wants to win prom queen or king. I honestly didn’t think I had a chance, since H was in the running too. He fits the prom queen standards more than I do, even if he is a boy. It’s the little things in life that sometimes I enjoy the most: vodka, remote controls, panda express noodles, and crappy burger king prom queen crowns.

So, April fool’s day is coming to a close when I start to
crave pasta. This is quite normal, people. So, I go into my kitchen
and get the water boiling and while I’m doing that, I start to
shred some cheese. I hate naked pasta, it must be wearing cheese in
order for me to eat it. Anyways, so I get a text message and I look
over to see who it is and the cheese moves and I end up shredding
my thumb! HOLY BALLS is right!!! Now, I feel bad for cheese. That
fucking hurt!!! I just thought I would share that with everyone.
Btdubs, skin doesn’t taste that bad… Just playin!… It
DOES!
